Learn how to take your own measurements for our bespoke creations
The Armature made-to-measure clothing service guarantees the most personalized fit you’ve ever experienced. Our creative director Sara Angelucci cuts and creates each garment to your exact proportions, so it is crucial that you provide us with the most accurate details possible.
Not entirely sure how to correctly take your measurements? Here’s how.
To measure your bust, stand upright without a bra on and measure around your back and over the fullest part of your boobs. Make sure the tape is going around in a steady, even line and feels slightly snug without being constricting.
To measure your waist, take the tape measure beneath your ribs but above your hips. Find the smallest point, breathe out and take the measurement. As before, it shouldn’t feel tight, just comfortably taught.
To find your shoulder width, find the boniest part of your shoulder where a bra strap would usually sit. Place the tape measure at the middle of one shoulder, and then run the tape measure behind the back of your neck and over to the middle of the other shoulder. You might want to get a friend to help you with this to make sure you get the most accurate measurement.
To find your hip measurements, stand with your feet together and wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your hips. Take the tape around the fullest part of your butt for the most accurate measurement.
To find your inseam, run the tape measure inside your leg from the start of your crotch down to the bottom of your ankle. Alternatively, if you already have a particular garment in mind, you can measure from your crotch down to wherever you’d like your garment to finish. Just leave a note when you submit your details that this is what you have done.
To find your outseam, measure from the point on the hip where you usually wear pants, all the way down the leg to where you usually like your pants to end. Keep the tape measure as straight as possible for the most precise measurement.
To find your thigh measure, (which is essential for pants, jumpsuits or bodysuits), simply wrap the tape measure around the fullest point of your thigh. This is usually towards the top. Stand with your feet hip width apart and try to keep your weight evenly balanced in both legs, again you might need some assistance with this one!
